Sergio Basso lived in China for a while. In China he was Gianni Amelio's assistant director on "The Missing Star".

He graduated from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, Direction Department, Rome.

He graduated from Moscow Gitis - Jurij Alschitz Directing and Acting School. He worked with Pëtr Fomenko, Eimuntas Nekrosius, Peter Clough, Philippe Delaigue.

He has been awarded 2008 Movin’up – Young Itaian Artist Scolarship, 2009 Solinas Award Special Mention for Documenrary Feature Films.

He graduated in Oriental Languages from Università Ca’ Foscari - Venice.
He cooperated in Oriental Art History at Università La Sapienza, Rome.

He taught at National Film School, Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, in Palermo branch, Art History Documentary section.

He coopertaed with IlSole24ore, SKIRA, Istituto dei Beni Culturali in Emilia-Romagna.
He is a member of the European Documentary Network.
He was one of the recipients of 2008 Movin’up scholarship for Young Italian Artits.

He has been among the winners of 2009 Premio Solinas - Documentario per il Cinema 2009.
